Empowering Educators: New Roadmaps for International Nursing Research Excellence

Banjarmasin, Indonesia. As global healthcare systems navigate the complex realities of a post-pandemic world, the need for robust, evidence-based medical education has never been more urgent. Rising to this challenge, STIKES Suaka Insan Banjarmasin, in a strategic collaboration with STIKES Intan Martapura, recently hosted a transformative two-day workshop on June 15 and 16, 2023. Held at the Maria Goretti Hall, the event gathered 57 healthcare educators and professionals from across the Indonesian archipelago, uniting them under a shared mission: to redefine the future of health research and community service. While this vital academic summit was proudly co-organized by both institutions, STIKES Suaka Insan served as the crucial anchor for the initiative, spearheading the operational committee and providing the collaborative space necessary to drive these critical global conversations.

Prof. Ns. Tantut Susanto, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.Kom., Ph.D., as the main trainer/speaker, presenting material on the concept and preparation of the Research Roadmap. This presentation session was held at the Maria Goretti Hall, 2nd Floor of the Paulus Building, STIKES Suaka Insan Banjarmasin.

Too often, academic research remains confined to university libraries, while community health initiatives lack the foundation of rigorous scientific evidence. This comprehensive workshop, titled “Preparation of Institutional and Lecturer Research and Community Service Roadmaps, alongside Tips and Tricks for Publication in Reputable International Journals,” was designed to bridge that exact gap. By developing clear, structured “roadmaps,” healthcare educators are now better equipped to ensure their academic work directly addresses the most pressing health disparities facing their local communities.

The sessions were led by Prof. Ns. Tantut Susanto, Ph.D., a distinguished nursing professor from Universitas Jember with a wealth of international publication experience. He guided attendees through the process of aligning institutional goals with actionable, real-world outcomes. The training emphasized that educators must be dynamic innovators. “As professional educators and scientists, lecturers have a primary duty to transform, develop, and disseminate science and technology,” which is achieved through focused research and applying those findings directly to improve society. Furthermore, the workshop challenged participants to elevate their academic reach, providing intensive strategies for publishing their findings in top-tier international journals.

The broader implications of this collaborative event extend far beyond the borders of South Kalimantan. On a global scale, there is a critical demand for highly skilled healthcare professionals who are culturally competent and scientifically grounded. Developing nations frequently face systemic barriers in contributing to international medical literature. By empowering educators to publish globally, STIKES Suaka Insan and STIKES Intan Martapura are elevating Southeast Asian nursing standards to the world stage. When local educators integrate cutting-edge, peer-reviewed research into their daily teaching, they ultimately produce nursing graduates who are better equipped to handle international health shortages and complex patient needs.

The success of this joint initiative, meticulously coordinated by the Research and Community Service Institutions (LPPM) of both schools, marks a significant milestone in health education. However, it is only the beginning. The ultimate goal is to see these newly forged research roadmaps evolve into impactful, life-saving community programs and globally recognized scientific publications (LPPM).
